Snail the Painter is an educational animated film for small children. It is an interesting and simple story about little crawling snails and colors. The children get acquainted with the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and what happens when they are mixed – how secondary colors are made (orange, purple and green). Snails slide along leaving traces behind them (primary colors), when they cross each other’s path new colors are created, secondary colors. When rain and a thunderstorm interrupt their game, new “non-colors” are introduced (black, grey and white) in the story, and the concept of watering and under toning colors, as well. After the storm, the sun shines again but the snails cannot find the colors, somehow they disappeared. The snails are sad and look for the colors and they finally find them transcended in a rainbow up in the sky. Snail Peter is especially enchanted with the Rainbow and he wishes for all the colors to be with him, all the time. The Rainbow fills the little snail house with its colors and so Peter becomes a painter. He goes on crawling, coloring all his paths with many different colors. Thus, at the end, this simple story also gets the meaning of a search for identity and illustrates how it is formed.
